Room 1 Hangi
Room 1 is investigating the possibility of having a hangi as a fundraiser for our end of year camp.  We hope to tie this in with Matariki, the Maori New Year celebration.  We need to find out if anyone can offer food donations for the hangi, particularly meat but also vegetables as well.  We also would like a guide of how many people from your house would like to buy a Hangi meal.  The cost would be $5.  At this stage this would be held on Friday 18 June, with a serving sometime in the early afternoon.  Please complete the form overleaf and we will update you in next week’s newsletter.
Library Quiz – Wednesday 16 June   Next Wednesday 8 students from Room 2 will represent us at the Motueka Library Quiz.  They should all be reading  voraciously in preparation!

Week 7 Newsletter

We have noted a new website www.tworedapples.com which may be of some interest to parents.  Its aim is to get parents to become more involved in their children’s learning and to help them to understand the newly implemented National Standards.  Worth a look if you can.
Ngatimoti School Cross Country
This will be held next TOMORROW, Thursday 3 June, starting at 1.30pm.  The forecast looks better so hopefully this can go ahead without too many problems.  All students must be wearing shoes appropriate for running.  Parent support is encouraged and volunteers will need to be dotted around the course to make sure the kids stay on track.  The plan of action goes like this:
                            1.30pm      Hall Class
                            1.45pm      Rooms 3 & 4
                            2pm          Rooms 1 & 2

Principal’s Thoughts Our school is proud to have been on an environmental journey since 2002, when we first became an enviro-school.  In a few weeks time, we are hosting reviewers from Wellington, to decide if we can call ourselves a Green-Gold school.  You might like to ask your child what they know about Ngatimoti being an enviro-school.  The review will focus on the 5 guiding principles:
1.    Genuine student participation
2.    Respect for the diversity of people and culture
3.    Environmental Education
4.    Sustainable communities
5.    Maori perspectives

Board of Trustees As you know, our new Board of Trustees now consists of Graeme Anderson, Sue Boissevain, Errol Boyes and Kylie O’Donohue, with Heather Reid our Staff representative and, of course, Ali Turner our Principal.  At the Board meeting last week Sue Boissevain was elected our new Chairperson.  Congratulations Sue!  You can phone Sue on 526 8234

Principal’s Thoughts Recently on the news, there have been some sad and distressing youth stories.  I believe we all have a part to play in ensuring our Ngatimoti children learn to navigate their way to adulthood successfully.  Strong relationships are a building block for this.  The relationship between parent and child is paramount, but other adults are also crucial.  Our recent scheduled Parent Student Teacher meetings showed a 99% turnout.  This is an excellent response.  It is important for your children to have adults working together to ensure the best possible learning for all.  At Ngatimoti School, all staff are committed to this.  If you ever need to talk, want reassurance or ideas, or would like help finding a suitable person to work through an issue, please talk to us.  Likewise, we may need to call you, to help us to help your child.  Our school motto “Together We Excel” is for all of us – let’s plan to hear of the positive experiences of our students in the future.
